Monochrome is the term used to describe paintings, photographs, designs and drawings all featuring one colour or shade. Although it is most typically used in reference to black and white tonal images, these are better known as greyscale or simply black and white. However the term is best used in association with limited tones and hues of one particular colour.

The painting by Peter Ward uses Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic in Titanium White and Mars Black on a ground of Sennelier Black Gesso.
